Midwest Guardians

One Amusement Park to Save

Power Girl wins the chance of a lifetime. The chance to see some real celebrates the stars of the hit drama series One World to Save at the opening of Omegaworld, the world’s only amusement park dedicated to the show. However, soon after the park’s grand opening things started to go horribly wrong. Rollercoasters careened down their tracks at unstoppable speeds, actresses and writers from the show ended up being on the wrong end of deadly traps and tricks. The heroes rushed from one emergency to the next trying to stop the madness. Finally Captain Chicago rushed to the one area where nothing was happening and burst into the room only to find Black Harlequin holding the judges of the Daytime Emmy’s hostage.

Let's Go to the Maul

The Midwest Guardians Go to the Mall

by Raven Storm

In what now appears to be some kind of pirated TV signal a mysterious person staged a phony hostage situation at the new Water Tower Place. The Midwest Guardians were called in to see to the situation but were instead met by throngs of fans of the hit TV show To Save the World. The heroes were also met at the shopping gallery by the villain Foxbat who was there to steal some of the cubic zirconium Hollywood jewelry that was on display. The group also known as The Grabbers were also on hand to steal the real jewelry. Fighting of course ensued wit Captain Chicago easily knocking out Foxbat.

However mayhem ensued when two employees of the Kountry Komics attacked Julia Rawaa in a misguided attempt to prove that she was a vampire by way of wooden stakes. Julia then defended herself with a small caliber pistol and shot at the boys luckily missing them. Collide quickly intervened and stopped each boy before the situation escalated. Foxbat fans were of course on the scene and singing the Foxbat theme song and calling for his release.

Power Girl and the Messenger were able to take down Cheshire Cat before he could teleport away.
Unfortunately Black Diamond, Bluebird, and Humming Bird were able to slink away with approximately 1.2 million dollars in jewelry.

The Midwest Guardians and the CPD were unable to theorize as to the reason both groups attacked the gallery at the same time. However Detective Shaughnessy stated it was probably just bad luck on everyone’s part.

Omegaworld, a new amusement park to open in the next month, is based on the One World to Save TV show. Construction on the park is slightly behind schedule but park executives and the show’s PR man indicate that it should be ready to open for a big Fourth of July opening day festival.

Park executives have stated that the amusement park uses some of the latest innovations and will have some of the fastest and tallest roller coasters in the world. It has been said that The Speeding Bullet, based on the JFO’s resident speedster will be the highlight for any roller coaster enthusiast.

On opening day the cast of One World to Save will attend as honored guests. Thousands of fans have started to receive special invitations inviting them to the opening day festivities. These fans have been randomly selected from the tens of thousands that are part of the One World to Save fan club. Many of the state’s leading politicians have also been invited as well so keep an eye out for everyone’s favorite Mayor and maybe even the Midwest Guardians will make a showing. Keep your fingers crossed Chicagoans.

Looking For Tall Heroic Individuals

Hero Wanted

by Raven Storm

This week The Pack a vigilante group killed many individuals this past week. Police officials stated that most of the individuals were suspected drug dealers or individuals who had been arrested at one time or another for dealing drugs. However, some individuals had no arrest record or any ties to drugs.

The Pack’s leader Mongrel stated to this reporter that any individual with a criminal is a criminal no matter what. Additionally, that his actions have saved the taxpayers millions of dollars in legal fees and countless lives. He went on to state, “The loss of a few innocents is regrettable but also acceptable in a war.”

Citizens of this great city are at a crossroads, many of them not knowing where to turn. The line between criminals and heroes has blurred leaving only victims in its wake. We are nothing to these heartless vigilantes. They show us nothing but contempt and disregard for our laws. They kill with impunity, hiding behind false bravados and hollow words.

This city needs real heroes, so that we the citizens are no longer powerless to their whims and wishes. Is there not a hero out there willing to step forward and protect our society, our laws, and our lives?

New Chicago Near Completion

Construction of New Chicago is nearing completion

by Constance Dorbin

Mayor Knightly announced yesterday that with the help from grants from the Federal Government and businesses New Chicago is nearing completion. Over 68% of New Chicago is completed with another 23% in the last stages of completion. Chicago can now boast having the greenest city on the planet. It has a public transportation center that is beyond rival, designed and built by Quest and Harmon Industries. The old Loop is now a walking area that is completely off limits to vehicles of any kind. Public transport shuttles, trains, and moving sidewalks will transport pedestrians from one place to another.
However citizens outside of the disaster zone have been clamoring for years that they are being bypassed on the improvements and building funds this has been especially true for neighborhoods living south of the devastation. Mayor Knightly’s office has stated that the city’s attention will focus on these lucky neighborhoods that did not suffer from the horrendous attacks that occurred almost five years ago.

City Rebuilds

Corporations make big investments in rebuilding the city.

by Dennis Compton

The Peacekeepers may have disbanded last year but Quest Industries still has its eye on the Windy City. Dr. Quest announced yesterday that he would donate over three billion dollars in funds, technological expertise and man power to help bring Mayor Knight’s vision to fruition. Insiders say that the feud between the Mayor and Dr. Quest may have abated due to the large donation.
This is the largest single donation to the City of the Future project to date. Many analysts believe other corporations will have to make bigger donations in order to garner the city’s attention and favor.
In related news it was announced that Quest Industries has been awarded a prime location for their new office building. The new building will incorporate many of the latest developments in green and bio-mimicry technology. Quest Industries has stated that it will forgo some of its patents to make it easier for the city and other companies to include the new technologies into their building design.

Mob violence continues

by Raven Storm

Another shootout occurred last night in the south side of the city. Police responded but were unable to apprehend any of the suspects. One witness reported one of the attackers walking through a hail of bullets without flinching. This is the first witness to report the possible first metahuman in the new turf wars taking over the city.
Mayor Knight’s office made a statement late last night that condemned these attacks and said that the police of this city are spread thin and do not have the adequate resources to deal with these
situations. He called upon the aldermen to act quickly on his proposal to increase the number of MARS agents and the request to use Federal funds to purchase new battle armor for the MARS agents.
Last night’s attacks killed another five individuals of the Bagarella family. Who have lost a total of 36 men in the last two weeks. Many believe that the majority of the family has fled the city to seek sanctuary elsewhere. This new player on the scene is unknown but many believe it is a completely new family who decided to use the chaos of the last year to their advantage.
This looks like it will be a another bloody year for Chicago’s crime families.

Peacekeepers Disband

Peacekeepers Disband

by Raven Storm

This morning Dr. Quest announced to the media and the public that the Peacekeepers would be disbanding. The Peacekeepers lost half of their members during the attack by Firewing and DEMON. Scorch left the city earlier this month due to large public outrage towards her for her part in the destruction. Chromia, Dr. Quests wife and fellow teammate, stated that the city would not be left totally undefended. Several heroes from neighboring cities like the Champions of Millennium City have stated that they will take look in on Chicago from time to time.
However, unnamed city officials have stated that the Police and PRIMUS officers are worried about the vacuum that will be left with their departure. Some alderman believe that this void will cause super villains around the country to choose Chicago as a place to make home.
Yet the mayor believes this will be a chance for new heroes to come and make Chicago their home. Mayor Knight said, “The Peacekeepers have helped this city for quite some time, but it is time for the city to have new blood in the hero community.”
In the past three months the bonds between the Peacekeepers and the Mayor’s office have become strained. Dr. Quest does not think that the mayor was supportive enough of Scorch and the Mayor believes that Dr. Quest and Chromia should have asked her to step down after the attacks. Insiders on both sides state that neither has spoken for quite some time.

PRIMUS Assigns Silver Avenger Ernie Freeman

by Dennis Compton

Today PRIMUS announced that it had assigned Silver Avenger Ernie Freeman to its Chicago office. Ernie is a decorated veteran of PRIMUS and former Navy Officer. His assignment gives Chicago its first Silver Avenger and makes its PRIMUS office official.
PRIMUS will have 50 agents permanently on duty to help assist with super villain attacks and to try and prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
Mayor Knightly welcomed Silver Avenger Freeman yesterday at a welcoming ceremony and stated that he has the utmost faith in PRIMUS .

A City Mourns

A city mourns, a nation reaches out.

Fires still burn in select corners of Chicago, but the majority have been brought under control. The super heroine Scorch has led the efforts in the last day after she became conscious again after her battle with Firewing. Teammates Dr. Quest and Chromia have also been part of rescue efforts to find civilians who had been buried underneath rubble.
Dr. Quest finally made a public statement late last night to reporters and officials of PRIMUS, “As we all know two days ago our fair city was attacked by the super villain known as Firewing. However what many do not know is that we believe he was brought here by the group known as DEMON. Shortly after Firewing began his attack, Mr. Powers detected some unusual magics being used in the vicinity of Wrigley Park. Mr. Powers, Dwarfstar, and myself went to investigate this occurrence as its timing with Firewing seemed to coincidental. Scorch, Chromia and Jack Flash headed towards the Loop to deal with Firewing. Unfortunately the spell that was cast upon Firewing also affected Scorch as well, hence her erratic behavior. Mr. Powers and I located the source of the strange energy and quickly realized that DEMON was opening a portal to another dimension in order to allow something to come through. They needed the fear, anger, and all the other emotions occurring from the battle to fuel their spell and to feed whatever was on the other side. A few creatures began to make their way through and Dwarfstar went forward to meet them, while I and Mr. Powers began to concoct a way to close the portal. It took some time but we were able to close the portal, however in doing so
Dwarfstar was sucked into the portal carried to somewhere else, the backlash of the spell hit Mr. Powers and sent him into a coma, and the machines that I was working with had a power surge sealing the fate of Dwarfstar for good. So the plot by DEMON was defeated but now our team’s numbers have been decimated with the death of Jack Flash as well…”
After that statement Dr. Quest then left the podium and shuffled to a back room. The deaths of his fellow teammates and friends clearly weighing him down and causing him a great deal of grief.
Mayor Knightly has spoken with President Bush and he assured the city that help is on its way. Donations have already started to pour into the city from everywhere. All countries seem to be shaken by the sheer destruction and violence caused by just two super powered individuals. Police are worried about what might happen in the absence of the Peacekeepers. The police commissioner has asked for assistance from PRIMUS and from UNTIL. Heroes from other cities have also started to make stops in the city to help pick up the slack.

Chicago In Flames
Chicago in Flames

Late yesterday morning the super villain Firewing struck downtown Chicago. His first three blasts of raging inferno and hit a CTA train blasting it off the tracks and injuring dozens. After this display he announced to the gathering crowds that he would face Scorch, a member of Chicago’s famed Peacekeepers, in single combat. The Peacekeepers were slow in their reaction and Scorch did not show up for several minutes prompting the villain to let loose with several more blasts into a nearby skyscraper.
After the second volley Scorch blasted Firewing from behind sending him careening into the pavement. Firewing quickly flew back into the air letting loose with another series of blasts. The two then danced in the morning air sending volley after volley towards the other.
Onlookers state that each seemed to fire more wildly as the battle progressed damaging several buildings and starting a few fires. Other members of the Peacekeepers came upon the scene and seemed to be a bit dazed by the amount of damage the two super powered combatants had caused so quickly. Chromia and Jack Flash began to help out innocent bystanders escape the brutal battle.
Scorch failed to take the battle away from the city and much of the early damage was caused by her as well. Then a little bit before noon both heroes appeared to use super powered blasts even pushing themselves beyond capacity. Both of these blasts caused an explosion that took out several city blocks, leveling all building within a half mile radius.
By this point fires had erupted throughout the city and seemed to gain in strength despite the best efforts of firefighters. Some witnesses stated that some fires appeared to start miles away from the battle. And other witnesses stated that they saw members of the Peacekeepers heading towards Wrigleyville. However none of these sightings have been confirmed and the whereabouts of several of the Peacekeepers have not been seen.
At this time the amount of casualties is unknown, but it is estimated to reach well into the thousands. Mayor Knightly has stated, “Have hope Chicagoans. We will pull through this by working together.”
As of the printing of this paper the Peacekeepers had not made any statements.
